I am in college right now and it isn’t working out, I really want to join something like the peace corps or another organization that helps out the ones in need.
I know most places you have to have a college degree but I can’t concentrate in school due to problems I have had in my life lately.
I’m at a loss
oh and i’m 22.:)

Try your local YMCA. If they don’t have any openings for hire, try volunteering for a youth sport. That will give you some experience as you look for work in a similar field. Also, try a local church, they may be able to put you in touch with organizations that help kids. Try the local High School as well. Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the list goes on. Hope this is helpful.

I’m not sure how old you are, but I would start with the Boys and Girls club of America. They have programs that may get you started. Some of which do not require a degree. Some of which are purely volunteer. But this would give you an idea as to whether this is something you wanted to pursue as a career, or strictly stay involved as a volunteer. Your local YMCA may have similar programs. Or even some of the churches in your community. Working with children in need, can be very rewarding but depending on the type of person you are, and if you get emotionally involved with their problems, it can be very tough. Good luck to you.

Check with your local Volunteer Center or United Way - they have connections to non-profits throughout your community that will have an opportunity that will fit your skills & schedule.
You can also look on line using sites like, or 1800volunteer.org.
Good luck to you!

Check out eckerd.org. Eckerd Youth Alternatives is a great organzation that works with at-risk youth in different capacities. I was a youth counselor at a wilderness camp for 2 years and it was a pretty crazy experience, but also a lot of fun and a great way to work with youth. You only have to have some college. I’d be happy to answer any questions about my personal experience.

I have volunteered with children and teens at Special Olympics and it’s rewarding maybe you could look up the chapter near you.
